I just pushed out a change that makes it so that the markers change color when clicked in order to help you keep track of which ones you’ve seen. I haven’t tested it very heavily, but in my testing, it seemed to work as expected. Please let me know if it acts strangely (padmapper@gmail.com).
I’d like [...]

Markers Changing Color
Thanks DailyCandy, and Keywords, etc. are back
PadMapper is back to its normal, ungimped form (keyword search is back, and I actually left subway on). Thanks very much to DailyCandy for sending its readers this way. Now that the server doesn’t need babysitting, I’ve got a host of things to work on, some of them a result of your feedback.
-The right handles [...]
Expired Listings
Hey everyone! As one kind user pointed out today, there are lots of expired CL postings littering the map. This is especially true in NYC, where brokers repost their places repeatedly to stay at the top of the list. If you’d like to help clean up the litter, please click the “Something’s wrong with this [...]
Temporary Changes (Disabling subway and keyword filtering)
PadMapper is probably going to be seeing extremely heavy traffic over the next few days (roughly 50-100x normal), and I’m making some changes so that the site hopefully won’t become completely unresponsive. This includes getting a beefier server on short notice, and streamlining some stuff on the backend, but these measures might not be enough, [...]
PadMapper Lite for the iPhone, Problem with Saving Lists
Update (4/16): PadMapper Lite has been caught in Apple approval hell for the past few weeks, there are some issues to be worked out with the program to meet some of their usability conventions, hopefully it’ll be up soon. I have to say, Apple’s 1 week approval cycles are awful to wait through…
First up, I’d [...]
Keyword Filter!
There’s a new thing in the filter box. It’s very multi-purpose, so hopefully it’ll take the place of any number of checkboxes that could have gone there. It’s a keyword filter!
Basically, say you want a place with an elevator, a doorman, and a patio, so you just type in “Elevator doorman patio”, hit the ’set’ [...]
Direct Posting is Live
If you have listings for one or more rental places posted somewhere on the internet, you can now let people find those listings on PadMapper by hitting the little “Post Pad” link in the lower-left box. This will take you to the create-a-new-listing page. Once you post, it’ll ask you to login if you’re not [...]
Self-Posting and Studios
Currently a few people are testing out self/direct-posting and the whole associated part of the site, so if you see funky yellow blips showing up, don’t be alarmed, those are just the direct posted listings. They’re colored differently because they’re special (and hand-crafted by a human, so more likely to be accurate). Hopefully I can [...]
Database Snafu, Sparse Listings, Saved Lists
About 4/5 of the listings just got owned unintentionally by some experimental changes in the database maintenance scripts, so that’s why the listings are so sparse. They should be back to full strength in about 4 days. Sorry about this. These changes are part of a large architectural overhaul, so this shouldn’t happen again.
Also, since [...]
The Cat is out of the Bag
Looks like PadMapper isn’t much of a secret anymore, thanks to LifeHacker’s writeup. It also looks like my server is better than expected – LifeHacker dumped thousands of new users on PadMapper within hours, and MediaTemple seem to have held up their end of the bargain. Only one user reported an endlessly spinning “updating” wheel.
To [...]
