Normally, if you're not logged in, a saved favorites list will disappear when your browser session expires, which happens when you close your browser. Storing saves your favorites list on the server so you can restore it at any point.

Submit your email below and you'll receive a summary list of the apartments you have saved, as well as a link that will load up PadMapper and fill your favorites list with the apartments you have in there right now.

As an alternative, if you login (link on top of the filter box), everything will be saved automatically. This box is still good for sharing/printing lists of favorites, though.

QuickMail Setup
QuickMail lets you quickly send emails to listers from within PadMapper. The emails will appear as though they're being sent by you via your email address, but PadMapper will start you off with a basic Subject and Body ready to go. You can personalize it, or send it as is. To get set up, please answer a few questions (this screen will only appear once per session).

Subscribe to new listing alerts by Email

Receive email alerts when new listings matching what you're looking for... exciting!

To get started, move/resize the map so that its borders define roughly the edges of the region you're interested in looking in. Then, set the filters to the settings you're looking for, and finally, come back to this screen, enter your email below, and hit subscribe. That will lock in those settings and you'll begin getting email alerts (up to 1/hour) when there are new listings in the area that match your filters.

If you want to stop receiving alerts, click the unsubscribe link in one of the alert emails.

To change the filter/location settings of the alerts, simply repeat the above with the same email address and the existing alert settings will be replaced by the new ones.

About PadMapper

PadMapper is a web application that aims to make searching online for an apartment to rent less painful by letting you see where the apartments are on a big Google map, and using the filters located in the box on the lower left to eliminate listings that you're not interested in.

When I was hunting for an apartment, I found myself reading through lots of ads that each had some fatal flaw (usually related to location) which was really time consuming to find for each one.

With PadMapper, you can rule out every place on Craigslist and PadMapper's other sources (Apartments.com, and tons of sources via Oodle) that doesn't match your location criteria at a glance. After that, PadMapper tries to put most of the relevant information in front of you so you can quickly decide whether you want to investigate further.

Some tips:

Zooming in will cause areas to fill in more.
PadMapper runs MUCH better in Google Chrome, Firefox 3.5, and Safari than it does in Internet Explorer 6 or 7.
The number of markers that can be displayed onscreen at once is limited to roughly 175, since it becomes choppy in some browsers (Internet Explorer) with more.
Filtering reserves those 175 spots for apartments that you're more likely to like.
If there's a big area that's empty that probably shouldn't be, zoom in on that area. If that doesn't help, try easing up on your filters. Also, try moving any large clusters of apartments you're not interested in offscreen by dragging the map or zooming.
Zooming in very close shows some cool local attractions around apartments (not available everywhere)
