I am looking for a roommate to move into the second bedroom of a two bedroom apartment in Roncesvalles.
The apartment itself is a treat. The second floor of a semi-detached house at Dundas and Roncesvalles. 750 square feet, one bath. Two porches (one front, with furniture and a street view; one back, with a BBQ). Big living room with lots of shelves, a turntable and good stereo, TV, coffee table, couch, chairs, a ceiling fan. Good water pressure. Ensuite, free laundry. Utilities included. A streamlined kitchen that gets the job done, and has lovely green cabinets. Storage available in the building’s basement (room for bikes). Your room would be at the back of the building, which keeps noise to a minimum. You’ll have one closet in your room and another one to share in the hallway.
The apartment is technically in Roncesvalles, but its location at the northern boundary of the neighbourhood makes it far more convenient than most other places in the area. A 4-minute walk to Dundas West subway; 1-minute walk to Dundas streetcar; 2-minute walk to College Streetcar. 504 King stops on the doorstep (like, actually on the doorstep, not on the “doorstep” according to other ads you’ve seen where they say “doorstep” but actually mean “within five to seven hundred metres”). I have never seen such a well-located pad in terms of TTC.
Not that Roncesvalles itself needs me to sell it, but here we go: minutes’ walk to all manner of shops, restaurants, record stores, yoga studios, bars, pet stores, greasy spoons, coffee shops, butchers, greengrocers, the works. The Revue Cinema is two minutes away, and always has good shows playing. Hugh’s Room is next door, if that’s your thing. Also next door is Stasis Preserves which stocks cheese, delicious sausages, fresh bread, and the best goddamn pre-made salad I’ve ever head. There’s a Monday farmer’s market nearby. The 24-hour gym up by Bloor is one of the best in the city and costs $20/month. Ten minutes’ walk (or three minutes’ bike) has you in High Park (boom). Fifteen minutes’ walk (or five minutes’ bike) has you sashaying down the Lakeshore Boardwalk, or splashing around in the Sunnyside Pool. Roncesvalles is the shit. It’s everything you want out of Toronto, and none of the bullshit you don’t.
Not that the deal needs sweetening, but here you go: the apartment is fully furnished. The living room boasts a couch, a chair, a bookcase, a coffee table / end table set, and another desk/table for eating/working. There is glassware, crockery, a good set of knives, and kitchen appliances already on-site. The apartment has a dishwasher. Let me say that again, the apartment has a dishwasher. Your room comes with an air conditioner, left behind by a previous tenant.
About me: I’m a male 27-year-old professional and I work in Port Credit, where I commute to daily. It’s a drag. I love music, movies (and TV!), eating loads, cooking, working out, gaming (MTG, N64, PS3) running, and the occasional joint on my front porch. I love dogs, and though we can’t have one, my parents’ pooch sometimes comes to visit. I collect vinyl, I play guitar and bass, and I sometimes roll up at stupid o’clock in the morning on a weekend. I’m good natured and friendly and I like to keep a schedule and reasonable hours during the week. I love to bike places. I love to ski, climb, and go on adventures in the city. I need almost no excuse to go canoeing and travel whenever I can. TL;DR—I’m a creature of habit with impulsive tendencies.
About you: You probably work, and you’re probably pretty close to my age. If you smoke, you don’t do it inside. Which is fine, remember, there’s two porches. You don’t think partying and having people round on a Tuesday makes a lot of sense. You like the varied meats of the cultural stew. You love to eat. You love to cook. You are not afraid to keep an apartment clean. You are not afraid to cut loose once in a while but you know how to keep your train on the tracks. You have good hygiene. You are fun. You are friendly. You bring something to the table. Ideally, this is a partnership where we can help each other out with a home-cooked meal here and there, and a friendly vibe to come home to after the day is done.
Rent is $1000/month.
Drop me a line if you want to come see the place, and we’ll have a cup of coffee. Boom. Seriously, this place is worth a look. Don’t miss out.
