Chase Knolls, a city historic/cultural monument in the San Fernando Valley, rests on nearly 14 acres of beautifully manicured land. Chase Knolls was originally a dairy farm in the 1920s. In the late 1940s, the Chase family turned their farmland into 260 apartments. It was designed for the WWII veterans returning from the war and wanting housing in the growing neighborhood that was developed by General Moses Hazeltine Sherman (1853-1932).
During this time, steel was rationed for civilian use due to the war. In the post-war building boom, steel was considered very modern and having stainless steel fittings at this time was considered to be a luxury. Still remaining today in the kitchens of Chase Knolls are the original stainless steel countertops.
Another unique feature that still remains are the trademark views from many of the windows into the lush courtyards. They simply do not make such picturesque apartment communities now. From the hardwood floors and park like setting to the front and rear entrances of each apartment home, Chase Knolls remains one of few communities in Los Angeles with timeless charm.
Chase Knolls is in the heart of Sherman Oaks, the "Gateway to the Valley" where location is everything - your home nestled around trees, courtyards, flowers, and your life away from home where all your needs are within a short distance.
