Hi there!
I'll be in SF for the summer so would love to sublease my studio to some nice soul! Below are some key details, feel free to shoot me a message if you have questions, want to see more pics, or check out the apartment in person!
Price: What's included and not?
-$900/month will cover rent, internet, water/gas utilities, and all necessary furniture (IKEA bed, futon, coffee table, desk, office chair, microwave, kitchen stuff, etc.)
-24hr maintenance phone line
-What's not included: monthly electricity bill
Facilities/Space: What are you getting?
-500+ sq ft studio with 3/4 partial wall that separates the living space from the kitchen, 1 full bathroom
-2 large closets
-Tons of cupboard space (10+)
-Laundry in building on the first floor (same as apt) ($1.25/wash and $1.25/dry)
Location: How convenient is this place? It's got a 92 score on walkscore
-Groceries: within a 5-10min walk of Hyde Park Produce, Hyde Park Farmer's Market, Treasure Island, (and Whole Foods, if it ever opens!)
-Public Transit: It's 1-2 blocks from the #172 (free for uChicago community), the East and North uChicago shuttles, the #2, #6, #28 Express buses to-and-from downtown
-Social scene: It's 2 blocks from the 53rd St area where most of Hyde Park's restaurants are, and 3-4 blocks from the two places that everyone will recommend you check out in Hyde Park: Valois and The Promontory; Street is generally pretty quiet!
-Nature/Outdoors: There are 2-3 Divvy bike stations within 1-2 blocks; you're just a few minutes' run away from the Lake (and the highly recommended Lake Shore Trail!)
Safety/Neighborhood: Would you feel safe here?
-Walkscore gives it a B grade on safety; what that means in practice:
-I have not had any trouble in the last 10months I've lived here
-There's enough traffic in cars and people that I'm fine with walking back from the bus stop or the restaurant/bars after 9pm on Weekdays, and later on weekends
-The people in the building and around the neighborhood are the sorts that stay out of your business, but are also friendly!
Other notes to think about:
-AC: The building lets us install window units but I haven't installed one--you might need it for the summer in Chicago (though considering it's still 30 degrees in the middle of April, maybe not? =))
-Apt is located right by the doorway: so you'll hear people coming in and out; make sure this won't bother you too much!
-The building is too old to have air vents for the kitchen; you'll need to make ample use of the 3 large windows and ceiling fan if you plan on cooking a lot
